Free Hotel Evacuation Plan Template (PDF)

An evacuation plan template for hotels, hostels and short-term lets, covering guest-room door cards and corridor evacuation maps. Download the free PDF or build room-specific maps from your own floorplan online.

Why hotel buildings need an evacuation plan

Hotels must communicate escape routes to guests who have never seen the building before — which is why fire codes in most jurisdictions require an evacuation diagram on or beside the inside of every guest-room door. Plans should be oriented to the viewer, highlight the two nearest exits, and remind guests not to use lifts during a fire.

What's included in this template

  • Print-ready A4/Letter layout with title block (building name, floor, date, revision)
  • ISO 7010 symbol legend (exits, extinguishers, alarm call points, first aid, assembly point)
  • “You Are Here” marker placement guide
  • Primary and secondary evacuation route indicators
  • Assembly point designation box
  • Emergency contacts panel (fire brigade, building manager, first aiders)

How to use it

  1. Download the PDF template and print it, or — much faster — open the EvacPlan editor and upload your own floorplan to build a plan digitally.
  2. Mark all exits on your floorplan, then draw primary evacuation routes from every room to the nearest exit.
  3. Add secondary routes for any area where the primary route could be blocked.
  4. Place ISO 7010 safety symbols: fire extinguishers, manual call points, first-aid stations, and the assembly point.
  5. Add the “You Are Here” marker for the wall location where the plan will be mounted — each mounting location needs its own oriented copy.
  6. Fill in the title block and emergency contacts, then print, laminate, and mount at eye level near exits and lifts.

Frequently asked questions

Are evacuation maps required in every hotel room?

In most jurisdictions, yes — lodging occupancies are required to post an evacuation diagram in each guest room, typically on or next to the room-side of the entry door, showing the room's location and the routes to the two nearest exits.

What makes a hotel evacuation plan different from an office plan?

Orientation and simplicity. Guests are unfamiliar with the building and may be woken by an alarm at night, so each map must be oriented to match the direction the viewer faces, use minimal text, and rely on clear symbols and bold route lines.

How do I create door-card maps for dozens of rooms efficiently?

Upload your floor's plan to the free online editor once, then duplicate and adjust the “You Are Here” marker per room, exporting all cards as a single PDF batch.
