Fire escape plans for Airbnb and holiday lets
Guests don't know your home. A clear fire escape plan in each bedroom shows them where they are, the quickest way out, and where the extinguisher and fire blanket are. Many councils now ask for one before they'll license a short-term rental.
Upload a floor plan, photo or sketch. The AI makes a map for every room.

Letting in Ireland? Fáilte Ireland's short-term letting register is due to open in December. What it means for your fire escape plan
What to put on each map
- "You are here" for the room the map hangs in
- The main way out, and a second way out where there is one (a window counts in some places)
- Smoke alarms, carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguisher and fire blanket
- The full address, so guests can give it to the fire service
- The emergency number (911, 999 or 112) and your contact number
- What to do: get out, close doors, call from outside, don't go back in
How many do you need?
One map in each bedroom (usually on or beside the bedroom door) and one at the main entrance. A two-bedroom flat typically needs 3 maps.
Tips
- Mount it at eye level by the bedroom door, the way the room faces, so left on the map is left in real life.
- Glow-in-the-dark signs stay readable if the power goes out at night.
- Update it if you move furniture that blocks a route or change the extinguisher's spot.
What the rules say
Some examples. Rules vary by country, state and council, so always check with your local fire authority.

Questions
Does Airbnb require a fire escape plan?
Airbnb recommends one in its host safety guidance, and many local short-term rental rules require one in each bedroom. Check your council's rules; it's quick to make one either way.
I don't have a floor plan. Can I still make one?
Yes. A clear photo of a hand-drawn sketch works. Draw the rooms, doors and windows roughly to scale, take a photo and upload it.
What size should it be?
A4 or US Letter (8.5×11) is usual for bedrooms. Some rules ask for at least 8.5×11.
Can I get them printed?
Yes. Order glow-in-the-dark, matte acrylic or framed signs, delivered to the property.
